What This Training Course Covers:
This course will teach attendees how to calculate window performance values using the “BC Reference Procedure for Using THERM to Determine Window Performance Values for Use with the Passive House Planning Package” (Version 1.1) published by the Fenestration Association of BC. The BC Reference Procedure is the first methodology using LBNL’s THERM software to be recognized by the Passive House Institute (PHI) for use on certified Passive House International projects.
Whether you’re looking to evaluate an existing product or to design the next generation of high-performance windows, join RDH Building Science in this virtual hands-on training course. Participants will learn how the PHI approach differs from NFRC and will be guided through a complete example on how to use the reference procedure.
- Understand the role of windows within Passive House project certification
- Identify the requirements for windows in Passive House projects
- Describe how U-values and other window performance metrics differ from typical BC Building Code requirements and NFRC procedures
- Perform two-dimensional thermal simulations using THERM and the BC Reference Procedure to calculate window performance values that are appropriate for use with the Passive House Planning Package
Format: 4-hour virtual presentation and hands-on THERM/WINDOW training. Downloadable slides and example files are included.
Audience: Architects and engineers who have a familiarity with THERM and WINDOW simulations.
