This course will provide education about silicone-based spandrel glass coating technologies. Attendees will learn about the risks of thermal stress breakage due to ceramic frit’s weakening effects on heat-treated glass. Testing methodology and industry standards will also be addressed. Alternative coating solutions will be introduced as a strategy to reduce risk of thermally induced breakage in glass facades.

LO1: Aesthetic and Environmental Benefits of a Glass Facade

LO2: What is Thermal Stress Breakage?

LO3: Why does Thermal Stress Breakage Occur and How Could Safety be Compromised?

LO4: What is the Solution and How is Welfare Impacted by Material Selection?
